How to Get the Most Out of Your Disney Timeshare Points
By Steve Miers
One of my favorite timeshares that I own is the Disney Vacation Club timeshare points. I own a few other timeshares as well, one in the Caribbean and another in Hawaii, but I don't always take advantage of those timeshares because they make me take a week's vacation at a time. Now I do love to get away and I tend to go away often but taking a week away someplace where I am out of touch for an entire week really is a difficult thing for me to do. That is why I enjoy the points system so much when it comes to timeshares because you don't need to take an entire week at a time and since I live in Florida it is a great thing for me to just pick up and go on a quick one or two day getaway at one of the Disney properties whenever I want. But you still need to make your points go as far as you can, here are some tips to help you to make them work better for you.
1. Weekdays rule, weekends drool - If you really want to make your vacation points last a long time you need to drop the weekend and holiday trips. I have 250 points to use throughout the year and I take advantage of every opportunity to go away but I do not use them on the weekends if I can avoid it. The points tend to rise sharply on the weekends and I can go twice as many days if I make them a weekday getaway. Some friends of ours use their points for going away for a week at Labor Day. It takes a lot of their points away for the year and they aren't able to go away as often.
2. Shop Around a Little - Different Disney properties charge different amounts of points at times and at different times of the year. If you are going to go to Disney on vacation for a day or two and you can stay for a few points less at the Wilderness Villas than you could if you stayed at the Disney Boardwalk why not take advantage of the lower points price. If you spend the days in the park you can still enjoy the comfort of the Disney room at night and if you like hanging out at the Boardwalk take a bus over there and spend some time.
Yes, sometimes it takes a little creativity to make your Disney Timeshare points go a little further but in the end it is well worth the effort.
